AFL 2017 predictions

AFL predictions from a pom that only just really understands the game (but loves it all the same). It’s safe to say I’m pretty stoked about this season!

This is how I reckon the ladder will look at the end of the regular home and away season. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am.

9-15 is the hardest for me to choose. You could pretty much pick any of those teams and place them anywhere around the middle of the table.

I’ve attempted to justify it below but this is how I see it shaping up.

  1. Hawthorn
  2. Sydney
  3. GWS
  4. Geelong
  5. Adelaide
  6. Western Bulldogs
  7. West Coast
  8. St Kilda
  9. Melbourne
  10. North Melbourne
  11. Collingwood
  12. Essendon
  13. Port Adelaide
  14. Richmond
  15. Gold Coast
  16. Fremantle
  17. Carlton
  18. Brisbane

Hawthorn – Hawthorn are just Hawthorn. I have a decent feeling about the Swans but I’m too much of a pessimist to put us top and can’t put GWS there, so the Hawks it is.

Sydney Swans – See above. Caaarn the bloods!

GWS – I have a bad feeling about this. They’re going to be like a futuristic war machine, designed for the sole purpose of total destruction.

Geelong – There or thereabouts. As always.

Adelaide – That forward line will make them dangerous. Weekly wonder goals from Eddie Betts.

Western Bulldogs – Lovely fairy tale but that’ll be it. Bontempelli to star.

West Coast – Josh Kennedy will kick them into the eight.

St Kilda – On the rise. They’ll scrape into the eight.

Melbourne – No real justification for this one apart from they look alright.

North Melbourne – Started well last year. Will do alright this year but without early season promise or raised expectations.

Collingwood – On the rise but still bang average

Essendon – Some players back, good conditioning, they’ll be ready to go.

Port Adelaide – nothing special this year.

Richmond – Just Richmond.

Gold Coast – Ablett will prevent them from being completely dire. He’ll be looking for a move back to Geelong.

Fremantle – Weekly disappointments.

Carlton – Give it a few years and they’ll be back up. Not this year though.

Brisbane – Absolute garbage.

I look forward to seeing how wrong I am in six months.
